Indeed. The TJI box has not looked this interesting in quite some time!

Unfortunately I don't have enough bandwidth to sample the new 10/30/70 transfer (though I do have beer). Anyone have any comments on this one?

Home at the end of the week...

I am have been listening it most of the day so far. I am into the Dead's late show and so far i think the sound is great. I have not compared it to what was previously available and i have had the volume relatively low, so I will need to give this another spin with a little more volume. I am not that familiar with this show and was surprised by what appears to be a lack of significant jamming in either show. I guess i still have the Dancin' and the Lovelight to look forward to. Also looking forward to an early version of Big Railroad Blues. Always think of it as a '71 song but it appears that this show was the beginning of its regular appearance in set lists through to 12-19-73.

Nice fish! looks like sushi time. Safe travels home, D.

The Big Railroad is terrible.

These Stony Brook shows (10/30 & 10/31) are among the weakest from 1970, despite the good sound & setlist rarities. They have their moments (for instance, I like the Dancing, and Lovelight is fine), but the playing is often really sloppy, even painful to hear.
The Dead don't sound quite so disinterested on the 30th as they do on the 31st (apparently they were upset by the student sound crew), but it's worth noting the banter after Good Lovin' in the early show, when Phil explains that they have to end the show - the crowd complains, and Jerry sounds very irritated.
Jerry: "Yeah, yeah, it's a bummer, but you know it's the first show, man - how often do we have to go through this shit?"

Yeah the Big Railroad did not do much for me. Oh well they got figured out by the Spring. I did like the tighten up jam in Dancin'. I also liked the FOTD. I didn't think the show was painful to hear but i thought the NRPS sets were the highlight.
